Re: Apple II Digicard network

The company is either changed directions or is no more, but at one time,
Arnatech did Digicard network stuff. The Archive.org Wayback machine gives
this info on them. see this link for more:
http://web.archive.org/web/20001102001129/arnatech.com/digi.html Check the
Apple II FAQ area for in depth info on how these gadgets worked.

I am also posting this below in the event anyone wants to archive it in in
the A2 world ;)

As you can see from this post. the name "Mandrake" was in use for a network
operating system long long before a Linux flavor had it ;)

VERY SPECIAL - SOFTWARE MIRRORING OPTION:
Have you ever lost all your MECC software and had to recopy all those floppy
disks? This new routine will restore any area you have backed up, saving you
lots of time and work. Simply get the software set up just as you want it
and then make an individualized backup of it. If the area ever fails, simply
restore it in less than 4 minutes.

The Apple II version of Mandrake (but not the Macintosh version) has a new
option added under the Software Management filecard which makes a "hidden"
backup copy of any individual software area right on the SRC (unlike a tape
drive which backs up the entire server to an external tape, taking perhaps
an hour). The advantage of this option is that when any software area goes
bad, you can simply use this option to restore that area.

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE AN ORDER:

You need to use Mandrake to look at your server free space to see if you
have enough space available to effectively use this option. See FAQ General
Info for information about how to find out what your current free space is.
FYI, each MECC area is about 14,000K, and the main Global School Net area is
about 32,760K. When you make a backup, total free space will decrease by
these amounts. Hard Drive Upgrades (if needed) are listed elsewhere in this
section. By the way, use the DEFRAGMENT option, if Largest Free Space does
not equal Total Free Space.

We also need your SRC serial number in order to process your order. The
serial number is the eight digit number shown in the upper left corner of
the screen at Server Information cited earlier about free space. Each copy
of Mandrake is now serialized to the individual SRC.

To order the new Mandrake, you also need to know your System version. This
is the number shown in the box on the screen when you turn on an Apple
computer and the Username prompt is showing on the screen. You need a 3.31
System version in order to use the new Mandrake. If your System version
number is any number smaller than 3.31, you also need to order a System
upgrade. By the way, your Mandrake version (not to be confused with System
version) is the number shown immediately after you type the Username SYSTEM
(and password).

To summarize, you need:

$49.00 for Apple II Mandrake 1.62 upgrade

The SRC serial number

Maybe a System upgrade ($49.00)

Maybe a larger hard drive
