Doesn't this seem a little ridiculous when 6502s can still be had
for under $10?

I think everyone would be happier trying to twist someone's arm (ie 
someplace like rocelec.com) into finding, dicing, and packaging some
old 6502 wafers (assuming WDC isn't interested), and having the real thing.

In any case, I probably have well over 100 6502s in my house on arcade
game PCBs, and that's a much bigger market than retro PCs...
