Re: Apple ][ Workstation Card

Hello David,

You write as if you have a working Apple Workstation card. Do you use it through a dedicated Mac server using Apple server software? Is that software required to use networked printers?

I have an Apple Workstation card in an enhanced IIe. Using the Workstation software (under ProDOS 1.9) I can log on to Mac volumes and can rename my Laserwriter and Appletalk Imagewriter II. However, using the Chooser II, the printers do not appear.

I had hoped that the Apple IIe would be able to use the Mac volumes and the printers in the same manner that my IIgs does, but so far I cannot use the printers.

Any ideas?

Gary

Will the Apple][ Workstation Card work in an Apple][ or ][+

It definitely works in an enhanced IIe. I'm not sure if it will work in
an unenhanced IIe, let alone a ][+ or ][.

It requires ProDOS 1.5 (ish) or later, and i'm not sure whether anything
that recent works on a ][ (the ][+ is supported up to 1.9).

Age-wise, the card was released around 1985, in the same sort of era as
the original Apple SCSI card (1986). The latter works on a ][+, so the
workstation card probably does too.

My recollection is that most of the software (LOGIN, LOGOFF, NAMER.II,
CHOOSER.II) runs in 40-column mode. If any of it needs 80 columns, that
would probably rule out the ][+.
