Per your question, I tried connecting the MacAlly 2-button ADB mouse
directly into the ADB port of the GS, thus eliminating the possibility
of interference on behalf of the switch, the PS/2-to-ADB adapter, and
the ADB keyboard.  Unfortunately, this did not cure it.  The same
symptoms persist using the MacAlly 2-button ADB mouse on the GS whilst
it is connected directly to the GS's ADB port.  So it is most certainly
a question of mouse compatibility.  Thanks for the idea though.  I wish
it had been that easy!
