Without having read the books myself, "Understanding the Apple II" mostlikely deals with the Apple ][ and Apple ][+ models.


"Understanding the Apple IIe" most likely deals with the Apple //e.

There are physical differences between those types of machines.Basically, the //e has lots of firmware enhancements that allow it touse upper and lowercase alphanumeric characters (the earlier Apple IImodels used only uppercase characters) as well as being equipped withmore RAM. The machines' ROMs (liken it to a PCs BIOS) are also different.
