Re: Recover old Sider II drive?

Hello.. Just wanted to probe the knowledge of the group here...

I have an old Sider II 20mb hard drive from years gone by.. The last
time I remember it actively working was about 10 years ago.

I was able to boot it up last christmas -- (it doesn't boot
independently, I needed to start up with a ProDOS disk).. I was able
to read the root directory, but couldn't get anywhere past that; it
would either freeze or spit out an error (I'm sorry I don't recall the
error - I think it may have just been the generic I/O ERROR message)
when I tried to run anything or explore the drive any deeper..

Is there any hope of recovery? Does anyone perhaps specialize in this?
I'm in the Washington, DC area.. I remember reading something about
someone in this area who specialized in such things about a year ago,
but I've lost all information on them..

If you want to get the drive repaired then there's probably not much
hope.
If you want to recover data off it then that may be possible. I had
a similiar situation a while back and was able to swap over the
drives circuitboard and read the data. I have a couple of working
20mb Siders and could give it a try if you don't find anyone closer,
I'm on the west coast of Canada.

One thought, there was a terminator on the drive when you were trying
to read the files, wasn't there?
