Imagewriter II problem/question

I just got a cpomplete IIGS system off eBay that came with an 
Imagewriter II.  Everything works great except the printer.  I get a 
flashing red error light that the manual says is either a "cover off" 
error, or the print mechanism is jammed.  cartridge slides across its 
track and centers itself on power up, and I can manually slide the 
cartridge fully from left to right, so I don't think jamming is the 
problem.

Is there a way to fool the cover sensor? Where is the cover sensor?

If this helps there was a small (tictac sized) magnet stuck to the 
cartridge motor.  I thought maybe that was part of the cover sensor 
that came loose??
