The main reason I go to thrift stores is to find something to sell on EBay.
When thrift stores jack up their prices to prevent that from happening, and
then destroy those items because they didn't sell at the inflated
prices...those stores are a rip-off. The thrift stores used to be very
reasonable, and I could make $10-20 bux by finding a jewel in the junk. One
time I found a C-VUE at a thrift store, paid $4 for it. Sold it for $400.
It wouldn't surprise me if I found one in the same thrift store now priced
at $500...and then sledge-hammered when it didn't sell for that price...
Thrift stores are supposed to be in the business of selling low-cost used
items to families in need, and using the profits to sustain the
organization, hence the term "non-profit organization". It seems they are
in the "profiteering" business now... I don't believe a thrift store can be
"ripped off". Everything they sell has been donated to them. For them to
sell the used item for as much (or more) than you could buy it new is
unconscionable.
Just my humble opinion...
