Re: ADT with a Laser 128
Thanks for replying, Bill. Here's a list of the steps I take to transfer
data to / from the Laser.
-Format the disk: New, Init Hello, it erases everything.
-Open Tera Term Pro (a generic terminal program). It's using COM 2 at 300
baud. I needed to insert a 50 msec delay between lines in order for the
program to successfully transmit to the Laser. Put in a 10 msec delay
between characters just to be safe.
-IN#2, then ctrl+a, then 6b to set the Laser's slot 2 (labelled "modem" -
it's the port where I plug in the null modem cable. Used to run an old
external dial-up modem off of it way back in the day) to 300 baud.
-send ADTSSCFG.BAS using TTPro
-send ADT_SS.DMP using TTPro
Both programs were sent successfully as far as I can tell - the data
streamed across the screen on the Apple II and they saved themselves on the
disk.
-Reboot Laser. BRUN ADT.SS. This brings up the ADT.SS program, shows me a
screen at the top that says SSC:S2, 300 (I set it for slot 2, 300 baud,
since that is what I used to transfer the program to the Laser in the first
place). Then says ADT 1.21, DISK: S6,D1 (slot 6, drive 1 - should be fine).
If any of those are off, I go into Configure and change them. So far so
good.
-Start ADT.EXE in WinXP, which lets me set the com port, the speed, and
connect / disconnect - but nothing else. I set it for COM 2, 300 baud, which
is exactly what worked when I transferred the ADT files in the first place.
Then I try to send or receive an image file, and it just hangs.
I do not have any dip switch banks like the SSC has to set the port to 8N1
or anything like that. I'm running the PC ADT.EXE program from a directory
just for ADTWin; I don't particularly care where the disk images go, and I'm
not so much interested in sending disk images TO the Laser at this point so
much as I am getting stuff FROM...and I can always do a search for the .dsk
file, which should be called whatever I typed in on the Laser when I ask it
to transfer. It never shows up, of course, because the program hangs.
Not sure exactly what else to tell you about what steps I'm taking, because
those are all the steps right there.
I'm not sure what you mean by handshaking using the software vs. hardware,
as there isn't any place in either program (i.e. - PC-side ADT or Laser-side
ADT) where I can set it to do one or the other. I'm able to send stuff to
the Laser all day using a terminal program, but for some reason ADT.SS (or
ADT.CC, or ADT) doesn't seem to want to send things to the PC. There is no
chance of the "SSC" being in any slot other than 2 as it's just a port and
cannot be moved, nor can it be changed by flipping any switch...and it has
already worked on slot 2 as I've already transferred the ADT programs to it
using IN#2 and all that.
Are there any other programs to try?
