I was hoping someone who knew better than me would come along and
answer this but as far as I know, the IIgs video circuitry has a set
of colours it uses for the lo-res and hi-res colours on the RGB
output. This means that the extra colours you can coax out of the
composite signal (yellow, brown and a few others) won't appear on the
RGB signal.
You get clearer images but they aren't quite accurate.
