Perhaps I'm misinterpreting what you are saying, but changing the
newsreading software won't change your situation. One would have to change
the actual NNTP server you are accessing USENET with in order to gain
access to newsgroups you are currently not "seeing".

As far as Google goes, I just went to www.google.com, clicked on "Groups"
and searched for comp.binaries.apple2.  Results 1-10 of about 12,200 show
one post to that particular newsgroup from 1989, of which goes on to
explain why binaries newsgroups in general do not receive good propagation
throughout USENET. I'm sure there are more posts in amongst those 12,200
results which would have direct postings to comp.binaries.apple2, but I'm
too lazy to look. Not sure why you would not see the same results as what
I get since your world wide web is the same one that I and anyone else on
the 'net uses.

But really, from the looks of things at my end using my NNTP server,
comp.binaries.apple2 is basically a spamfest of postings, I don't see a
single Apple II binary posting there. Looks like that newsgroup is pretty
much a lame duck franchise so to speak.
