The local Goodwill had about 10 Apple //c's at one time, all $5 each, and
they let me plug them in to test them. I knew from my old Apple days that any
accellerator produced a high pitched beep, and sure enough 1 of the //c's did
that. Took it home and found a 8Mhz ZIP inside. Wound up trading it for some
other hardware.
