True. That still leaves questions about the wisdom of scuttling
an aircraft carrier (Apple with the Apple II user base) and making do
with a cruiser.
We can say many good things about Mac. The only catch is that
Apple, Inc had no business creating it. Instead of all those years of
fretting about whether a more powerful II would impact the Mac,
someone at Apple should have asked how Mac would impact the II and
chucked Mac out the window the moment it was suggested.
With far less investment than went into Apple III and Mac, Apple
could easily have had a 65816 by 1982 and a 16-bit professional-look
Apple IIe (with separate KB, mouse, graphical interface, ProDOS on
hard disk) ready to go in 1983. From then on, it's either a dogfight
with the likes of Commodore or the entire home market just drops into
Apple's lap. ...
So, instead of getting kicked around by Microsoft, we could,
today, have the pleasure of being kicked around by Apple!

Current trends seem to favor both more CE goodies and ever more
attractive applications for computers.
One pretty good rule about the 'big one' is that no one sees it
coming until it's here. Look back at the sci-fi stuff leading up
to the 1970's. You'll find plenty of scenarios which mention
computers; but, who comes even remotely close to predicting
the home computing revolution?

Looks like you're very close to being on target.

Good point. Too bad none of today's computer makers understands what
constitutes genuine customer value in a computer.

Think of the modules as you used to think of microprocessors. It's
like having a new 'Big Bang'.
