Help! I have 5-6 IIe/IIc mouses, all with the same fault! They
scroll vertically, but not horizontally. Someone told me that its
indicates a broken wire. But which wire?? Is the break likely to be at
the
DB-9 plug, or at the entry point into the mouse's housing?

Turn the mouse upside down and turn the the door open that holds the
ball. Remove the ball and the dirt that has accumulated inside.
Put the ball back in and turn the door shut. That should do it.
