Well, I bragged a bit in a different thread about Sylpheed-Claws which
works for both email and news groups but I have to do this again. I
set the receive to limit the email size to 99k and now have eliminated
even downloading 95% of the junk. The remaining is the small script of
something which has been stripped. Then the filters trash the rest.

My little 56k (shared even) connection breathes a sigh of relief!

I'm pretty sure there is a Win32 version also. You can check here.
