If you can get your hands on an Echo II it will not only give you a
volume knob, but also a _slightly_ better speaker...
The IIe spaeker doesn't work the same way as a normal audio speaker, so
you should be careful trying to modify it. I know that trying to tap a
headphone jack from the speaker wires will cause the computer to
malfunction (or at least that has been my experience).
