Apple IIe Questions

I am a pretty new user of these computers and just received an Apple IIe today
and am having some trouble.  First off, I have the CPU plugged in and I turn on
the switch and nothing happens.  Any suggestions?  I have seen other IIe's and
they have a light that comes on right next to the open-apple key but mine
doesn't have that light.  Also to connect the monitor to the CPU do I use a
normal video cable?
