And built in screens, which not only must make for a lighter package,
but definitely a more compact package.  The Model100 ran off 4 AA batteries,
and the Apple IIC had to use a considerably heavier battery.

Of course, perhaps the question was a trick one.  The poster asked
about portable computers, like the Kaypro and Osborne, rather than 
laptops.  Of course, he may not remember that there were laptops back in 1984.
