Thanks to all who have responded regarding my equiry about text data
transfer of Apple //e, AppleWorks 2 created, 5 1/4 in. discs to 3 1/2
in. discs, readable by modern AppleWorks 6.
Amongst various helpful suggestions was the following, which applies
accurately to me:
"If you want your files but you're not really that interested in a
long term
commitment to the Apple IIe, a better idea for you would be to offer a
collector a modest amount of money to do the transfer for you. What
you are
wanting is certainly something that they would know how to do and I'm
sure
that you won't have any difficulty in finding a few kind people would
be
willing to help you if you ask politely on the comp.sys.apple2
newsgroup."
And, since I am in South Africa, preferably to find some kind person
here.
This then is my polite request: is there anyone in the world, but
preferably in South Africa, who would undertake to make the transfer
from my 5 1/4 in. discs to 3 1/2 in. discs that I could use with my
currect Apple Mac G4?
I would be willing to make a modest payment for this. In addition, I
would airmail the 5 1/4 in. discs, and pay for the airmail postage
back to me of the 3 1/2 in. discs, after reaching an agreement.
I would like to explore this option before, if necessary, exploring
how to do the job myself via the necessary assembled hardware.
Sincerely,
Jim Phelps
