Re: Thorw away your 8 Bit shit and buy a PC

Throw away this old crap
Certainly not!!

I've built three (count 'em, 3) PCs so far: a PII-300, PII-450, and the
one I'm writing this on is the latest, an AMD Athlon XP2200+.
or a Playstation 2 if you want
to play !
Nah, I'll pass. I prefer Nintendo.
Spend your money for modern stuff instead
See above.
and invest in your economy
See above.
instead of paying money for old crap hardware games, lots of money on
ebay for worthless stuff greedy sellers bought for $0.01 on a
flea-market.
Errmm...I paid $150 for an 800XL w/1050 floppy drive (which I still
have). And no, I did NOT but it on eBay.
Nostalgia makes no sense ,
Yes it does.
these old computer-dinosaurs belong in a
museum !
Some are.
If all people would still use old systems,we would still use the
ABACUS today !
Even in this modern day, with super-fast computers and highly capable
calulators, the abacus is still used today, as is the slide-rule (a
slide WHAT??? ;-) ).
My very first computer was an Atari 600XL. It was a Christmas gift from
my father. I wore it out. Sadly I no longer have it. (Sniff, sniff)
I am an Atari junky, and currently am the proud owner of an XEGS, two
130XEs, three 800XLs, four 1050s, and an XF551 in a pear tree (no, not
really; it's hooked to a 130XE at the moment). Oh, almost forgot about
the 2600 (one day I get it working again; it was a victim of a misplaced
foot that trashed the case and damaged the circuit board :-( ) and the
zillion carts for it.
I did have a 5200 once, and played the hell out of it. I loaned it to my
brother one day years back, and as fate had it, his house burned down,
and so went bye-bye my 5200. Sniff,
sniff...sob....bwaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
(wiping tears from eyes and typing on....)
I currently have one of the 130XEs set up, hooked to the 551 mentioned
aboved, with the rest of the hardware safely packed away as spares. And
yes, I do indeed fire it up every now and then to play Ballblazer or
PacMan, or dabble with the Assembler/Editor, or play with Adventure Creator.
NOTHING beats the actual hardware.
(BTW, I do use emulators: Atari800Win+, PCAE (2600 emulator), Jnes (NES
8-bit emulator), and SIO2PC floppy emulator.)
As mentioned in another thread, the games today do not have the
playability that the old games have. (My wife loves the hell out of
PacMan, Ms. PacMan, Q*Bert, and Frogger. She doesn't care much for
today's PC games. I won't mention her beloved Mario, as it is not a PC
game, per se.) I've played Half-Life and Homeworld, and after beating
them, they pretty much lost their appeal. But I still play the "oldies"
regularly.
Now go find your rattle and plug your strained-peas hole with your pacifier.
