The TimeMaster had extra functionality that other Apple II time cards
lacked.  For instance it had millisecond resolution.  And it also
kept track of the year -- with the Thunderclock the year had to
somehow be deduced from the calendar date and weekday combination
(the Thunderclock told you the month, date, and weekday, but not the
year!!!).
 
The Timemaster also had a "Thunderclock compatibility mode" for
software which expected a Thunderclock.
