That TI apparently didn't have a clue about how to sell computers didn't
help much, either.  Also, while the computer was fairly cheap (my first
machine was a TI-99/4A purchased in early 1983 for (IIRC) about $150),
add-ons remained expen$ive.  The cost of upgrading it to make it useful for
more than just games and tinkering around in BASIC led to it getting
replaced by an Apple IIe in mid-1985.

(I now have a 99/4A with all of the stuff that I didn't have back in the
day--48K, Extended BASIC, floppy drive, speech synth, etc.  I think I have
no more than $100 in it.  eBay 0wnz j00. :-) )
