Changing weather patterns is a hot scientific subject today, and
then you DO NOT discard old weather records....  if the weather
patterns change as you claim, it gets even more interesting to
preserve old records.
 
Here in Stockholm, we have a weather station, placed in the middle
of the city (not a particularly good location) which still is
maintained, because in one respect this station is unique: it has
the world's longest unbroken record of weather observations: 250+
years !!!!!!!!!!!  Here they DON'T discard old weather records,
even if the weather pattern should change....
