He means that they are not described by a partition table at the
beginning of the physical volume, and so cannot be mounted by
anything but the CFFA card.
This would not be easy to change, since partition mapping is
currently hard-wired on the card, and using a table would require
RAM on the card (unless, of course, the partition table was just
a formality, a constant describing the hard-wired partitions).
