I call the statement that BASIC was not created for serious use as
bullshit. It was back in 1964 but for mini-computers. It was never intended
for low-level programming. It was intended to make programming easier for
the purpose of using simpler and easier to learn syntax to create programs.
It was rather limited because of things called Line numbers and the number
of characters per line in most languages and the fact that most versions of
basic use 16 bit for addressing and left it at that. BASIC could easily
have 32 bit addressing. It is just adding two bytes to the existing address
code but it is better to write the 32 bit address code in hexadecimal code.
