Re: The IBM PC's slavish devotion to the Apple II
In infinite wisdom Bill Garber answered:
Pardon my rebuttal, but one of the reasons Apple IIs
are where they're NOT today is due to a lack of
cooperative ventures. Everyone went their own ways.
If you know the story from the beginning, before the
Apple I was even created, Woz, Jobs, Gates and one
other, who's name slips my mind for now,
Are you thinking of CP/M? That would be Gary Kildall,
who died not too long ago.
all worked
together developing concepts which would be the
composite of all home and business PCs today. Please
check your sources. MicroSoft has more to do with the
success of Apple than anyone chooses to admit.
I'm not sure what to make of this. Microsoft (actually,
Bill Gates himeself) wrote Apple BASIC, which was on ROM
in each and every Apple ][. Other than that, what did
Microsoft do?
I've been
following the battle between IBM and Apple and IMHO,
Apple would have been dead in the water, so to speak,
had IBM not stepped in and kept them afloat.
Are you thinking of the PowerPC? Maybe so, maybe not. The
68K was not a bad chip, and there is no reason why it
could not have been developed further. Look at what happened
to the lowly 8088.
Now, for quite some time the best application for the MAC
was Microsoft Office, as I understand it. I think you are
confusing Microsoft and IBM here.
So, if
you'd like to rephrase your post, please do, otherwise,
keep it to yourself.
This is a newsgroup, people post what they think, which is
both good and bad at times.
This post shall in no way reflect on my feelings toward
the Apple II line. It was and is and probably will always
be in the hearts and minds of all who have had the pleasure
of owning one, whether for $1200, or free from a dumpster.
Let's give this thing a rest.
Indeed.
Rich
