This works fine; but, you will lose the hardware control lines and need to switch to Xon/Xoff handshaking. In "Properties", Flow control should be Xon/Xoff. On your IW-II, DIP switch 2-3 should be Down (closed).

YES YES it works!! (but YOU knew that....:-)
annotated (for others??? ):
IBM 9 Pin Side Apple Imagewriter II
2 rd 3 td
3 td 5 rd
8 cts 1 dtr
5 gnd 4 and 8 gnd
1, 4 and 6 cd,dtr,dsr 2 dsr

Thanks, this doesn't correlate to the 'pattern' in the official
imagewriter II Tech Ref manual......
(anybody that doesn't have a mini DIN cable w/ 4 & 8 connected inside:
remove left leg from IWII. jumper 4 to 8...)

Great! You can always jumper 4 and 8 on the end of the DE9. As
long as they are jumpered, it doesn't have to be on the actual mini
DIN8 connector itself. Most mini DIN 8 M/M cables have all 8 wires in
them. I used to have MD 8 M/M cables that were wired 1 to 1, etc to
use for switchboxes, etc..
