I've got the (Turbo C) source code from the Wintel-based ADT 1.2.1. From
what I can see on both ends (The Apple II source code is there as well)
the basic operation is pretty much set in stone due to what the Apple II
side of the connection is going to expect and respond to. There's
nothing particularly complex about it (most "difficult" operation is
generating a CRC-16 checksum), but since the Apple II side is going to
be expecting *EXACTLY THIS, AND NOTHING ELSE* to come through the pipe,
it's prety fixed in how you can do the actual transfer work.

As far as what the user interface looks like... <shrug> That's a
complete and total no-holds-barred free-for-all. Wanna make it look like
space invaders? Or a Windows FTP session? Or like somebody is typing it
across your screen as the file is sent? Or something else? Go for it!
But don't screw with the stuff that actually goes across the connection,
or the Apple II end is almost certainly going to break. Unless, of
course, you re-write THAT end, too... I'm rusty in 6502/65C02 assembly,
but like riding a bike, it all comes back when you start doing it again.
Gimme some motivation (read "$$$"), and a couple weeks to "immerse"
myself in the code, and I can probably come up with a custom version for
the Apple II end of things. Quite frankly, though, I see no real reason
to bother. Paul did a good job with that.
