And as for Lynx, you should have mentioned that it requires a connection to 
a *NIX account (UNIX, Linux, FreeBSD, FreeSCO, etc).

Fortunately, you can build such a machine for next to nothing and with very 
little effort.  For a quick start, I highly recommend cobbling together an 
old 486/DX-33 and installing FreeSCO.  Then you can set up a null-modem 
connection from your Apple II to telnet into the FreeSCO router and run 
Lynx from there to cruise the net.

You will be pleasantly surprised at the minimum requirements for a FreeSCO 
dialup router, BTW.  :D
