I'd use another hard disk. You've got 300 megs there, so even a 1 gig drive
would be plenty. They are cheap, fast, convenient, and readily available.
You could backup using your IIgs to copy partitions to a second external
drive. Slow, but it would work.
Or maybe an older Mac. Connect the drives externally, and use the Mac to
make archives or burn to CD. For example, I've got a Mac Color Classic with
the Mystic upgrade (040 cpu). That can access ProDos partitions, and I've
got an external SCSI CD burner for it.
