Re: What model Apple II did your school have?
It wasn't until High School that they had "computer studies" as subject.
At the time, a mixture Apple IIe's were used, including platinum models and
one IBM PC-compatible. Nearly all came with colour monitors either the
official Apple ones or those from Taxan.
During the last year, it was replaced by Macintosh's that had a monochrome
screen, hard drive, and looked like an 'updated' version of the first Mac.
Everything was pre installed for classroom usage and the security was low, no
passwords, etc. As a result students often wiped the contents off the hard
drive and worse, formatting it! On the upside, few students owned any Mac
games which was already forbidden.
Some students wanted Amiga 500 computers in the classroom, rather Mac's.
Thankfully, that didn't happen.
The changeover made little difference to me, I could still take my homework
assignments home accessing the Macintosh disks on the PC - something few
others could do!
Lunch times was when the "computer club" operated. Two seven form students ran
it and I was one of them, in fact, back in 5th Form, I became the youngest
person to become one. For the test to gain the highest card, I created my own
graphical shoot 'em up game in a similar style to "Castle Wolfenstein".
As for the Apple IIe's it got relocated to another room and eventually sold
off. :(
