Re: New to group -- found Woz signed Apple //e on e-bay

I once wrote in this newsgroup on the importance of authentication of a
person's signature (this was brought up when someone sold a Steve Jobs
signed item for about $1500 or so). When this Apple IIe bid first appeared,
I had an interesting e-mail dialog with the seller. I suggested to him that
he should tell a story on how he obtained Woz' signature. Apparently,
obtaining the signature was sort of a negative experience for the seller,
and he's getting rid the machine not only for the money, but also because it
reminds him of the events that occured during that time. He didn't get into
any detail other than his situation sounds something like his girlfriend ran
away with his best friend during the event. So it's really next to
impossible for him to authenticate the signature without some sort of
photograph of Woz with the computer, or a letter of authenticity.

HOWEVER, looking through my archive photos, there were actually a few Apple
IIe's that were sold by the school that Woz worked at on a volunteer basis.
They cleared out the IIe's for a fundraiser, and Woz signed every one of
them. Each model sold for about $300 to $500 each. The point here is that
the placement of Woz' signature on the school computers, as well as the size
of the signature, match exactly with the IIe that's currently on auction. So
it's true that when Woz does actually sign an Apple IIe, it's always the
same. Of course, this seller could have the same information that I have,
but I doubt it since I'm pretty much the official Pack Rat extraordinare of
eBay archiving. =^-^=

So take the information for what it's worth.
