Re: Painting your Apple II in funky colours...

I've experimented with both Testors and Tamiya paints on a IIe beige, and
they worked fine. Both can be found in hobby stores around the World. Tamiya
specializes in colors used for military modeling, so the colors are usually
brown/green/grey or somewhere in that neighborhood, but they also have some
really awesome colors you can't find in the Testors line. Acrylic or enamal
works fine, though acrylic is easier to use seeing it's water based. Always
use primer first because it bonds to plastic better than the actual color. I
would, however, recommend that you sand the entire surface of the plastic
before applying the primer so that it sticks even better (the case is
usually glossy and slick). And a clear coat of acrylic sealer sprayed on the
final finish will protect it.

One thing to note, an Apple II/II+ has its beige color painted on already,
and it's a greyish rough molded material underneath. It's not actually
plastic by any means. Here's a case I'm currently working on:

If you can find a color that's translucent, it'll work great on key caps.
And the clear coat will make the keys more durable when used. A really cool
combination would be cranberry red.

My "other" hobby besides Apple computers is garage kit modeling,
specializing in Japanese anime characters. Here's one I just finished:

The paint I used on her is Tamiya acrylics.
