Re: Transwarp GS question...

Anyone know where I can get a hold of the documentation for this card?
A download site? A place to buy it?
Or, maybe someone here can answer this. How hard is it to transfer
the card from one IIgs to another? I found a ROM 01 machine with the
TWGS at a thrift shop the other day and would like to move the card
into one of my ROM 03 machines. When I went to pull the card, I
noticed a ribbon cable from the card to the motherboard... Does this
mean I'm going to have to pull / desolder something from the
motherboard of the ROM 03? Any other tips would be appreciated as
well.
The ribbon cable also plugs into the card so you'd be best off
unplugging it from the card first.
Basically just remove the 65816 from the ROM 3 then remove the ribbon
cable from the CPU socket of the ROM 1 and plug it into the CPU socket
in the ROM 3.
The plug that goes into the CPU socket isn't the most robust so either
use a puller or if using a small screwdriver, don't try and pry is out
in one pry, pry up one end just a little then then the other a bit so
it comes up strait. Go back and forth a few times until it's out. Also
make sure you're prying between the plug and socket, not between the
socket and motherboard which I've heard of happening a few times.
More than a few people have damaged these plugs trying to remove then
or while trying to insert them. If you're not sure about doing this,
get an electronics shop to do it for you, these cables are hard to
replace nowadays.
The legs on the ribbon cables plug are thicker and longer than the legs
on a chip so it opens the contacts in the CPU socket further than
normal. Once it's in the ROM 3 never remove it, it may not make good
contact on a second insertion. There's also a small possibility a
regular 65816 may not make good contact in the ROM 1's socket now.
