Always a good choice. Very mature and stable.

Okay... At this point I have to let you know two of the three grou
ps you posted to ARE NOT MAC GROUPS! They are Apple// groups. It is a m
achine which predates and funded the Mac.

True. OS X I hear is all inclusive.

It's not as bad as that. It's a whole lot easier in fact. If your ha
rdware is fairly mainstream and not too new or too old you won't have
to go looking for anything. The new releases within the last couple of yea
rs are just as easy to use as OS X.

True. IMHO, Macs have a better internal design than PCs. Some models
don't need a fan. Less moving parts mean there is less which can go wrong.

You may want to consider BSD. It is available for both Macs and PC
s. One guy at the local user group said it would work on almost anythin
g. The advantage with BSD is you can get it working on older machines. Inst
ead of running a machine with System 6 you could run BSD. I'm tracking do
wn the necessary hardware right now so I don't have it running myself. How
ever a friend who has it running on his PPC says it works great. Since it *i
s* BSD you can run Linux programs if you have the source and compil
e them yourself.

I've seen a rack mounted unit in January. Top quality hardware. Not cheap.
