Well, if you want to go for the ultimate in authenticity, you could
just read the sign bit of the audio input ADC for the cassette input
(with the emulator "paced" to 1MHz simulated speed, of course), and
toggle the sign bit of the audio output DAC for cassette output.
That would precisely emulate what the Apple II hardware does, and
would allow you to hook up your cassette deck to your PC sound card
and have at it! ;-)
