Well, strictly speaking, you should be able to view the text of web
pages on your IIgs on the internet by downloading and installing
Marinetti and Arachnid. Marinetti is required to do a TCP/IP
connection to the internet so it is required regardless of what
software you use. Arachnid is the cheap way to go as it is free. It
will even let you download files via FTP links on pages but it is an
unfinished piece of software so isn't guaranteed to work. :-)
However, having Spectrum gives you a fantastic telnet program and the
scripting capabilities of Spectrum allows lots of other things to be
created for it as well. Spectrum Internet Suite (aka SIS) at its
heart, is a script that allows you to view the text of web pages on
the internet and send e-mail via mailto links on web pages. It
doesn't support FTP links on web pages, though. There are also
several other scripts available: Spectrum Automated Mailer (aka SAM)
is an e-mail client, Spectrum Automated File Exchange (aka SAFE) is an
FTP client and Spectrum Offline A2Central Reader (aka SOAR) is an
offline reader for Syndicomm (the name is a little dated now :-).

You may want to look around Joe Kohn's site some more. At one time I
know he offered a set of disks that contained pretty much all the
available Apple IIgs internet related titles on it.
I have a list of internet related software that I should make sure
I've updated since I last posted it and post it again.
