Re: Super Serial -> PC

Which version of Microsoft [MS] Windows are you running? If your using MS-Windows 95/98, it's
easier to use the Windows edition of MS-DOS program, "ADT" for transfering complete disk images
to and from your Apple IIe!

Personally, I run my terminal software within native MS-DOS mode, not only does it run faster but
its unlikely to fallover, be interrupted by: the screensaver, crashing background application or
performance loss due to Windows deciding to run a hidden task.

The programs, I use for transfering individual files (shrinkit, etc) are: DOS version of Telix on
PC and Access II on IIe. Seems most stable at 9600 buad, anything higher I experience errors. If
you do alot of file transfering, I found it really worthwhile having two 3.5inch disk drives for
Apple IIe with the proper disks (HD used as LD, and vice versa, die like flies!), just for the
additional capacity of 800Kb versus 143Kb on 5.25" disk.

I know this is off-topic, but exactly what type of computer do you have? a desktop or laptop?

Everyone seems to be forgetting that a Pentium CPU won't fit on 486 motherboard!
Most 486 processor chips are either: Socket 1 (169-pins), Socket 2 (238-pins), Socket 3
(237-pins). Whilst, a Pentium overdrive chip will fit on Socket 2 & 3 motherboards, nothing else
will, unless you use a third-party unofficial Pentium-performance-like 'upgrade chips' designed
for those motherboards which is 100% Pentium compatible and are very rare.

As for Pentium [P] processors, Socket 4 (273-pins) - P60/66 only, Socket 5 (320-pins) -
P75->133/P75+ Overdrive, Socket 6 is a phantom never actually produced, Socket 7 (321-pins) -
P75-200/P75+ Overdrive, etc.

Also, bear in mind with all CPUs they use different voltages, pin-layouts and might not be
recognised by the BIOS.

Most motherboard manuals can be downloaded from the internet, whenever you get a chance take a
careful look at it and write down any markings like companies name, serial and model numbers.

I hope that helps...
