I'm not sure what you mean.

Dapple ][ slurps the entire disk image into memory, converts it to
NIB-6656 format and holds it in RAM in that format.

Dapple 1.x reads a track, converts it to some internal format (either
NIB-6656 or NIB-6250).  This behavior comes from Andrew Gregory's
original disk ][ emulation code.

Most emulators have a copy of the disk ][ firmware ROM loaded at
$C600.
