IIRC, on a IIgs with System 6.01, the formatting doesn't make much
difference because the dirvers read a track at a time and sort the sectors
out later. If you are booting off the floppy, or running an older o/s, than
4:1 will be slower than 2:1.
The biggest difference is on a //c with a Unidisk. WIth 4:1 the disk has to
spin 4 times to read a track. With 2:1, it has to spin almost once for each
sector, which averages about 10 sectors per track on an 800k disk. This
makes it twices as slow as and already very slow 4:1 disk. I don't know if
this applies to the //c+ (which can use an Apple 3.5) or on a //e with the
super drive controller.
