Been there, done that (on the C64). I have several programs that does
that, one was a type-in from a Swedish computer magazine, and another
version I wrote myself. It didn't modify the ROMs, though, but copied
the ROM into RAM, switched to RAM mode and modified the data.

Kind of cool, but not very useful :)
