In the late 1960's or early 70's, I took a course with a lab that
required back breaking computation.  I would have given my eye teeth
for a simple TEXAS INSTRUMENTS non programmable scientific calculator.
A C64 was a wet dream of unworthy bachelor level college students.
Unfortunately, in those days scientific calculators could only be
bought by college professors who had large research budgets.  In
those days, 300 baud was fabulous.  For my dinky course,  I had to
do the computation using common logrithms.  Now that's primative!
