Doctor Design soundcard for the IIgs?

Hi,

I came across a Doctor Design sound card in an Apple IIgs. It has a
headphone jack and an ON/OFF switch which turns on/off the internal speaker.

I am only able to get mono out of the headphone jack, which seemed odd to
me. If this card is only capable of mono, then how is that different from
the original IIgs headphone jack? There are no toggle switches on the board
and no colume control. The GS colume control does not affect the sound card
volume. I am thinking perhaps there is a software driver that turns on the
stereo mode and set sound volume?

Anyone has experience with this piece for hardware?
