Definitely not so. The external combustion engine would likely have been
the winner but maybe electric would have been popular too.

I've never seen a Stanley Steamer, or a Baker electric car, but I've
certanily seen lots of ICE powered cars, as old, or older than either of
those.

ICE powered cars? As in (I)n (C)car (E)ntertainment. Wow! I knew that
amplifiers had become more powerful but to use the bass to drive your car
- I am assuming you point the speakers towards the rear of the car for
thrust? :)
