Re: Apple Lisa SCO Xenix boot floppy copy

The Lisa 2 "can" run Mac OS with the support of MacWorks, and you're correct
that the video will be distorted because of the pixel ratio issue, which is
what I meant when I said "The difference is the ROM and video support".
Software alone cannot correct the pixel ratio of the Lisa 2 display. On my
Lisa 2 in my museum, I use a 3rd-party hardware switch I installed to flip
between the Lisa 2 pixel ratio and the Macintosh pixel ratio.

However, the Macintosh XL definitely cannot run Lisa Office, and that's
because when you upgrade your Lisa 2 to a Macintosh XL, not only is the
video corrected, but you also replace the Lisa ROMs with the Macintosh ROMs,
which contain the same library routines as the Macintosh 128/512K models.
The reason for the need of MacWorks on a Lisa 2 is that this software
provides the library routines required by Mac OS. When you change the
physical ROMs, the Macintosh XL is stuck with Mac OS-only library routines
and therefore you're lacking the Lisa library routines.

So, it's better for the collector to purchase a Lisa 2 over a Macintosh XL
if he's looking for flexibility to switch between the two (physically
changing ROMs, or better yet purchase a second logic board from someone like
lenny15 on eBay). I'm also quite positive that SCO XENIX will not run on the
Macintosh XL model with the Macintosh ROM upgrade because SCO XENIX looks
for the Lisa library routines.
