Correct, but there _was_ Microsoft code and it's entirely plausible to
me that some of that code has survived for 20 years. In contrast...

... the Mac is not in any real sense an evolution of the Apple II line.
The copyright dates claimed are supposed to cover the code that's
actually present in the thing being declared.
