Jason,

I vaguely remember that the AppleCD SC & 150 were unable to read
multi-session CDs. (Capability to read multi-session CDs were a big
marketing issue when the AppleCD 300 came out - you could read Kodak's
PhotoCDs with those).
So the CDRs you've successfully tried with were possibly burnt in
single-pass mode, and that single session was closed after burning.
