RAMFAST SCSI card + Hard drive setup problem

Dear fellow A2 enthusiasts,
Can I ask for some help configuring a SCSI hard drive in a ROM 3 Apple IIGS.
I've got a Rev D Ramfast SCSI card and a used Loviel external SCSI hard
drive previously used on a Mac--it contains a Quantum Maverick 740MB drive.
I have the card set with the jumper ON, and the disk has an external
terminator which is in place.

When entering the Ramfast SCSI utilities screen, it recognizes the hard
drive. When attempting to format, it runs the drive, but ends with a
message "Ramfast MLI Error!" It will let me format the drive but will end
with the same message. If I boot the system from the Ramfast utilities, it
will not recognize the hard drive, and will not let me install GSOS from the
floppy drive.
What is a Ramfast MLI error? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help.
Joe
