Thanks for all the advice. The grime pretty much floated away
(though a few nicks here and there have some lodged in there
pretty good). The "amber" on top and on the side came off
without too much trouble (I was originally going to use a
spackling tool, but grabbed a plastic ice scraper from a car
instead. The only foul-up was that the case as a whole seems
to have faded some *except* for the spot where the "amber"
was, leaving a splotchy "reverse discolouration," if I could
coin a term.
The keyboard was partially covered in dry-cleaning plastic
all these years (I think it must have slipped off the rest of
the machine), so there was very little dirt there. The keys are
a little stiff but seem to be loosening up with normal use.
And yeah, the process was sort of therapeutic. :-)
