Even though it's peer-to-peer, if you have two Macs doing personal
filesharing, they are acting as file servers. File server being a
dedicated machine serving files died a long time ago, but machines that
are set up to do just that are still called file servers. I have a
monitor-less Quadra 650 with a bunch of SCSI hard drives on it that I
use as a file server, but I'm only running the built-in file sharing on
Mac OS 8.1 with it.
Under Mac OS 7-9, the only difference that shows up on a network between
personal file sharing and an Appleshare server is how many users can
connect to the computer at one time. At least as far as I know.
